Real Madrid vs Club América | Preview
The first match of the Mourinho era is only hours away from kick-off as Real Madrid face Club America at San Francisco’s Candlestick Park. The Mexican side has already played two official league matches this season and appears to have its axles slightly more greased than the Madridistas, but hype surrounding the match cannot be any greater.
Real Madrid’s first of two games of preseason prepartations in the US kicks off on Wednesday at 20:00 PST. It is finally time for Jose Mourinho to see how much his team has learned since training began two weeks ago. And although it’s just a tune-up match, many eyes will be watching.
The Portuguese coach has relentlessly stressed the importance of suffocating pressure on the opponent to steal the ball, fast transition play and opening the game up along the flanks. Players of the likes of Ramos, Marcelo, Di Maria, Cristiano Ronaldo and Pedro Leon will play a key role in ensuring that such concepts are successfully put into good use.
Mourinho now has his full squad on hand, but expect to see those who recently arrived in LA spending more time on the bench than on the pitch. One of the last to arrive, Iker Casillas, discussed Wednesday’s opponent. “America’s season has already begun. They have played two matches and have more experience than we do. We also know they are very motivated to play against Real Madrid and that they will play this game as if it was an official match,” said the Madridista keeper.
Expectations cannot be any greater as Mourinho’s Real Madrid take to the pitch for the first time, so expect the Whites to treat this as any other match and to seek the victory from the moment the referee blows the whistle.
