You scratch my back and I scratch yours
As the international week rounds off to a conclusion at least temporarily the Whites participated in their second training session of the week at Valdebebas on Tuesday and were joined by four academy players. The seven first teamers not on international duty viz. Dudek, Adan, Marcelo, Pedro Leon, Pepe, Mateos and Granero worked out under Jose Mourinho’s supervision along with youth teamers Alex, Juanfran, Morata and Sarabia.
The internationals on duty will play their last matches today; Germany, France, Portugal and Spain’s Under-21 play qualifying games for the Euro 2012, while Spain and Argentina meet in Buenos Aires for a friendly.
And Gonzalo Higuain, who will play a part in the friendly, offered his thoughts on the Spanish national team.
Iker is the best keeper in the world. He is incredible. He is making history. Nothing is impossible in football. Spain has been the best team for a while because they have earned it. They are a cut or two above all the rest. Their football is some of the best ever seen, but Argentina is capable of beating anyone.
Spain and Argentina have faced each other 12 times, resulting in five victories for each and two draws. The last time they played each other our very own Xabi Alonso scored a brace in the 2-1 win. The midfielder too had kind words for the Argentine National team:
Even though there aren’t points involved, the game against Argentina isn’t a friendly one, as it was proven in the game in Madrid. We aren’t fighting for points but we are fighting for things equally important, like prestige. We have to defend the world champion star on our national team shirts and the game will be watched by millions.
The enticing friendly will be played at River Plate’s Monumental Stadium. Most probably, the starters from Friday’s win would be rested for the clash to avoid fatigue as it is just a friendly.
In other news, Karim Benzema is fit again and will travel to Bosnia with the French National team in what would be a crucial game. Sergio Canales too plays an important game as Spain must win against Poland in order to qualify for the play-offs.
Para Siempre Blanco!
