Signing

Mesut Özil becomes a Madridista!

Özil joins German compatriot Khedira (background) at Real

Mesut Özil has signed for  Real Madrid C.F. from SV Werder Bremen for a fee reported to be around €15m. The German youngster who was under the radar of several top clubs in Europe including the likes of Manchester United and Barça decided to join Real Madrid following Real’s second offer which Bremen could not refuse.

The official word from Real’s official website read:

Real Madrid C. F. and SV Werder Bremen have agreed to the transfer of Mesut Özil.

Werder turned down an offer which was described as “risible” by general manager Klaus Allofs last week but have now reached an agreement for Özil, who would have been available on a free transfer when his contract expired in 12 months. Werder had opened up new contract talks with the Özil a year ago, but the player officially rejected the club’s final offer prior to the World Cup. From that moment, it was clear Bremen would be forced to sell the 21-year-old. Earlier on Tuesday, Werder claimed they would play Özil in the Champions League on Wednesday, leaving him cup-tied, unless a deal was agreed in the next 24 hours. Allofs said:

If a club is looking to sign Mesut to play Champions League, then that club needs to make a decision before Wednesday. If Mesut Özil is a player of Werder Bremen on Wednesday, we are going to play him against Sampdoria.

However, Özil did not take part in the club’s final training session ahead of the clash as Real moved quickly to complete the deal. Following the deal Allofs said:

We respect Mesut’s wish to take the next step in his career at this point.

Özil will undergo a medical in Madrid on Wednesday and is reported to have agreeed a six-year contract to team up with international team-mate Sami Khedira and fellow new signings Ricardo Carvalho, Sergio Canales, Pedro León and Ángel di María.

Özil’s senior career began at FC Schalke 04 at the age of 17 but in January 2008 he moved to Bremen for €4.3m and the following year helped them win the German Cup and reach the UEFA Cup final, before inspiring his nation to victory at the UEFA European Under-21 Championship in Sweden. He had already made the step up to the senior international side and was nominated for the adidas Golden Ball at the 2010 FIFA World Cup after helping Germany finish third. He has now won 17 caps and in all made more than 100 appearances in all competitions for Bremen.

From a personal standpoint, this particular signing of Mesut Özil, I feel is the signing of the summer so far along with the move of retaining Sergio Canales. Özil is a sensational player and definitely is one for the future.

Sami Khedira becomes a Madridista!

German star signs five-year deal

The official word:

Real Madrid C. F. and VfB Stuttgart have agreed to the transfer of Sami Khedira, who will sign a five year contract with Real Madrid.

Stuttgart wanting to avoid the free transfer of Sami Khedira, who was inching closer to a move by the day, permitted Real to negotiate personal terms with the German midfielder and now Stuttgart have confirmed that Sami Khedira has joined Real Madrid, subject to a medical. A statement on the Bundesliga club’s official website read:

In the end, everything went very quickly and those responsible for Stuttgart and Real Madrid agreed a switch for midfielder Sami Khedira. As soon as the German international has completed the sports physical examination, he will put his signature on the contract.

The 23-year old midfielder becomes Real’s third signing this summer after the coups of Angel Di Maria and Pedro Leon.

Pedro León becomes a Madridista!

Pedro Leon is a Madridista

It was just a formality. Earlier today Real Madrid announced on their official website that:

Real Madrid C. F. has reached a deal with Getafe C. F. for the transfer of Pedro Leon, who will play for Real Madrid over the next six seasons. The midfielder will have his physical on Friday morning and will be officially unveiled at 12:30 CET at the Presidential Balcony of the Santiago Bernabeu.

Pedro Leon, was then subjected to a medical examination at Sanitas undergoing the usual blood and urine tests, electrocardiography, a magnetic resonance, a radiological and biomechanic examination, a clinical exploration of the musculoskeletal system and a cardiorespiratory examination that every player who signs with any club undergoes. Carlos Diez, Head of the Sanitas-Real Madrid Medical Services when asked about the player said:

Pedro Leon is an athlete and he is perfectly balanced from a biomechanical and muscular perspective. He is fit to join the rest of the team. The player is in great shape. It is obvious he took part in four training sessions with his previous team. We spoke to Getafe’s Medical Staff and they sent us all their information on the player. We’ve only done tests we believed we needed to make in order to have a more detailed study. All the results were positive.

He then, bysigning a contract that will keep him at the Club for the next six seasons, officially became Real Madrid’s latest addition. President Florentino Perez, Director General Jorge Valdano and the Club’s Board of Directors were present during the signing and all congratulated and wished the player good luck.

Angel Di Maria becomes a Madridista!!

Real Madrid released a statement on its website that read as follows:

Real Madrid C. F. and S. L. Benfica have come to terms for the transfer of Angel di Maria. The player will sign a six year contract with Real Madrid C.F.

This comes as a confirmation of a move that had been on the cards right from the moment the transfer window reopened and the fee is reported to be in the range of €25million (£20.3million).

Di Maria is currently playing in the World Cup with Argentina, who have reached the quarter-finals of the competition. The 22-year-old won the double with Benfica last season and was named the league’s player of the year. He started his career with Rosario Central in Argentina before moving to Benfica in 2007 and is viewed as one of Europe’s finest young talents. Speaking about his move, Di Maria said:

It is an honour to know that Jose Mourinho wants to sign me. It will be very nice to play in the same team as Cristiano Ronaldo and many other stars, but for now I’m focused on the Argentina team.

Di Maria who had been linked to a number of top European clubs after catching the eye for Portuguese outfit Benfica in the Europa League last season,  becomes manager Jose Mourinho’s first signing since taking charge. Mourinho’s first signing as Chelsea manager was Portuguese full-back Paulo Ferreira, while his first major capture at Inter was another compatriot – Ricardo Quaresma. Both Ferreira and Quaresma were flops at their respective clubs. Let us hope that Di Maria isn’t one such signing.

Jose Mourinho becomes a Madridista

He is Special.

After several weeks of speculation and a few days of waiting the announcement has finally been made. Jose Mourinho has been appointed as the new coach of Real Madrid. The club statement read as follows:

Real Madrid C.F. and F.C. Internazionale Milan have reached an agreement for Jose Mourinho to become the Spanish club’s coach. The agreement took place following a meeting between Inter Milan President Massimo Moratti and Real Madrid President Florentino Perez in Milan. The meeting was friendly and cordial, as befits the relationship between both clubs.

Mourinho, who is away on a holiday, will be presented to the World on Monday in the Press Room of the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.

The Special One as he is known arrives at Real Madrid a week after winning the Champions League with Inter Milan at the Bernabeu. The Nerazzurri hadn’t won the title in 45 years. The Portuguese coach also won the Italian Scudetto and the Coppa Italia during the 2009/10 season, achieving Inter’s first-ever treble. Mourinho also won the Scudetto in his first season at Inter, as well as the Italian Super Cup.

He won six titles in three years at Chelsea, whom he coached before Inter. During his first year at Stamford Bridge, he won the Premiership and the Carling Cup. Chelsea won the Premiership again the following year after a tight race with Manchester United throughout the season, which the Blues opened by winning the Community Shield. Mourinho led Chelsea to victory in the FA Cup and the Carling Cup during the 2006/07 campaign.

Before leaving for England, Mourinho won the Champions League title with Porto in 2004 as well as the Portuguese league title (the first for Porto in four years). With the Portuguese side he has also won the UEFA Cup, the Portuguese Cup and the Portuguese Super Cup.

His coming to Real Madrid was not a big surprise at all and it was somewhat inevitable. In an interview immediately after is Champions League victory over Bayern, he told Sky Sports:

Inter is my house, the same way Chelsea is my house. It was difficult to leave Chelsea – if I leave Inter it is difficult to leave. But that’s life, that’s football. After Chelsea I thought it would be impossible to have the same kind of relationship with supporters. I have two houses – Stamford Bride and San Siro and a third house, probably Santiago Bernabeu.

Real Madrid is the only club that wants me.

No, I don’t have a choice (of clubs). But Real Madrid is Real Madrid. Everyone knows English football is my passion and I go back to England once.

But I think a big player, a big coach – if you don’t go to Real Madrid, or if you don’t play for Real Madrid – you have always a little space on your career. So if I decide to come to Real Madrid I will be a very proud man.

I believe my target now is to win a championship I have not won yet and a Champions League with a third club. And one day I come back to England.

Mourinho’s teams have built a reputation of being hard to break down, and questions have been raised as to whether his style of attrition would match the demands of the silky Spanish game. But he defended his choice of tactics, insisting it was important for a team to play to their strengths. He added:

When a team is a slow team – because we are a team of not very fast players – you have to play as a block, you have to be compact. You must play in a certain way. I think a great team is a team that plays with the real qualities that it has.

With these qualities we beat the champions of Europe, we beat the champions of England, we beat the champions of Germany, we won the Champions League and we won the Treble.

Jorge Valdano when asked on national radio about the dismissal of Manuel Pellegrini said  that even though Pellegrini created a very good working environment, avoiding dressing room conflicts and had an impeccable record in the league he was not able to succeed in the most important games of the season and that is why the management decided to dismiss him. It is true. Pellegrini didn’t win a single big game throughout the season. He lost the very first knockout game in each competition that we were in. He lost both legs of the Clasico. And with the team that we have we didn’t manage to deal with the expectations. So will Jose succeed in doing so? He definitely thinks so. The Special One said:

I think Madrid have signed me because they know that they can demand aims in the short term but that I am also capable of leaving a base for the future.

It’s clear that I work for myself but also for clubs. At Chelsea you can see scouts and physical trainers that I left there. The same goes for Inter.

I want to leave a mark at this club, not only with titles but with other things. I promise from my first day that I will bring out the best in the players, that I will take care of them.

If this had come from any other manager I would still have been tentative about the validity. But since it is Jose whom we are talking about I must say that he is a truly remarkable coach. No doubts about it. I believe in every word that he said above. He takes care of his players and moving the spotlight on to himself. Our players need that more than any team. And about leaving a base for the future, we all know where Castilla stands right now. Jose Mourinho is the right coach for Real Madrid. But that does not justify the sacking of Pellegrini. At least not until we see Mourinho emulate Pellegrini’s achievements. Let us hope that he does so and not become yet another mistake of Senor Florentino Perez.

Sergio Canales becomes a Madridista!

Real Madrid have officially agreed a deal to sign Sergio Canales from Racing Santander.

The official statement read:

Real Madrid C.F. and Racing de Santander have reached an agreement for the transfer of the player Sergio Canales Madrazo. The contract, which will link the player to Real Madrid CF over the next six seasons, will enter into force from 1 July 2010.

Canales, 18, has announced himself as a major talent for the future since coming through Racing’s ranks, scoring five goals in 11 appearances for the first team this season. That form saw him linked with several of Europe’s top clubs in January, but while he stayed put last month, he will be moving on in the summer.

Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City were all rumoured to be keen to bring the 18-year-old to the Premier League, while Barcelona were also credited with an interest. However, Canales’ father revealed last month that the midfielder wanted to join Real as he believed his career would be best served by a move to the Bernabeu.

No fee was announced by either club.

Xabi Alonso becomes a Madridista!

Liverpool have reached an agreement to sell midfielder Xabi Alonso to Real, subject to a medical. The fee is reported to be in the region of £30m but Liverpool said the terms of the deal would remain confidential. A statement on Real’s website read:

Real Madrid C.F. and Liverpool F. C. have agreed to the transfer of  Xabier Alonso Olano (Xabi Alonso). The player will arrive in Madrid tomorrow to undergo the required medical.

XABI ALONSO IS A MADRIDISTA. ITS OFFICIAL!!

A statement on the Reds’ official website reads:

Liverpool Football Club this evening confirmed they had reached agreement for the sale of Xabi Alonso to Real Madrid, subject only to a medical. The terms of the deal will remain confidential and undisclosed.

Para Siempre Blanco!

Hala Madrid!!

Alvaro Arbeloa becomes a Madridista!

Just a confirmation. We’ve already spoken enough about this. The official statement was released a few hours back. It read:

Real Madrid C.F and Liverpool F.C. have reached an agreement for the transfer of Alvaro Arbeola to the Spanish club. The player will sign a five-year contract with Real Madrid.

The deal is supposedly worth 4.5m euros. He can play on either side of the defense. He probably should sport number 27. Moreover he was Pellegrini’s personal choice at full back so there is no question as to what his role would be. He has gained all the experience needed at the top level with Liverpool and I see him as a good signing. But his arrival makes the exit of one or two of our players imminent. Heinze anyone?

Para Siempre Blanco!

Hala Madrid!!

Esteban Granero becomes a Madridista!

AGAIN! Yes! Finally!

Esteban Granero has re-signed with Real Madrid who used the buy back clause that was annexed to his contract at Getafe to get him to the Bernabeu for the next four years. The official statement on the club’s website read:

Real Madrid C.F. has reached an agreement with Esteban Granero to reacquire the services of the player, who will sign a four-year contract with the club.

The former Spain U21 international, who featured at the recent European U21 Championships in Sweden, is delighted to be heading back to the Bernabeu and is determined to prove his worth second time around. He told AS:

This is my dream. I intend to make the most of the opportunity which has been given to me.

I am just loving this. It was him that I wanted to see at Real more than Xabi or any other midfielder! This is going to be brilliant. Now all that I hope is that Negredo and Garay are allowed to stay.

Hala Madrid!!

Karim Benzema becomes a Madridista!

Karim Benzema has become the latest player to join the ranks of Crisitiano Ronaldo, Kaka and Raul Albiol at the helm of the Santiago Bernabeu. He was the obvious choice after Floretino and co. missed out on Villa. The player had been strongly linked with a move to Manchester United but it is a known fact that Benzema himself preferred Real Madrid over other clubs in the world.

Karim Benzema (2)

A statement on Real’s website read:

Real Madrid C.F. and Olympique Lyonnais have reached an agreement for the transfer of Karim Benzema. The player will have his medical examination in the next few days, which will be followed by the signing of the contract with his new club. The 21-year old French international striker will play six seasons for Real Madrid.

The player like the other acquisitions this season will spend the next six seasons at Real and the deal is said to be worth upto 41 million euros.

A statement on Olympique Lyonnais’ official website said:

Lyon announces the agreement with Real Madrid of the transfer of international attacker Karim Benzema for a net minimum value of €35m. It will also be possible to add various no-claims bonuses related to athletic performances, allowing the deal to reach a maximum amount €41m. A few days ago, Karim Benzema informed president Jean Michel Aulas of his wish to join Madrid, which has always been his preference after Lyon, quicker than it was initially considered. The player wished to seize the opportunity that was offered to him by Real, which was to be one of the major elements of the club’s new, ambitious policy built around some of the largest players in the world. Lyon accepted the decision of Karim Benzema and negotiated the conditions of a transfer which satisfy the various elements. The club wishes Karim the greatest success with Real Madrid.

He now becomes the sixth striker in our squad following Raul, Higuain, Huntelaar, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Negredo. This means only one thing. Players will be sold!

Para Siempre Blanco!

Hala Madrid!!

Cristiano Ronaldo becomes a Madridista!

Presenting Manuel Pellegrini

Manuel Pellegrini is officially the head coach of Real Madrid. President Florentino Perez, President of Honor, Alfredo di Stefano, Director General and Presidential Aide, Jorge Valdano, Sporting Director Miguel Pardeza and the Board of Directors were on hand as the Chilean signed his contract. Florentino Perez then presented Manuel Pellegrini as the team’s new coach in the Presidential Balcony of the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.

Manuel Pellegrini Presentation (4)

Manuel Pellegrini entered the Board room at approximately 11:45 to ink a two-year deal with Real Madrid. The new head coach was joined by President Florentino Perez, President of Honor, Alfredo di Stefano, Director General and Presidential Aide, Jorge Valdano, Sporting Director Miguel Pardeza and the Board of Directors.

“Thank you and welcome to the club,” said Perez to the new Madridista skipper.

President Perez and his entire Board of Directors entered the Presidential Balcony at 12 pm with Honourary President Alfredo di Stefano. Manuel Pellegrini made his entrance a few moments later.

Florentino Perez:

Thanks you for coming to the presentation of Manuel Pellegrini as Real Madrid’s new coach. The challenge we face is one of the greatest in the history of this club and I will never fail to stress the devotion and psychological strength we will all need to achieve our goals. Jorge Valdano, Miguel Pardeza and Zinedine Zidane are already working non-stop. We know which way to go and Manuel Pellegrini knows this. We want each game to be a fascinating experience for our fans and Club Members because that’s what they all dream about. We want to sign players of unquestionable quality throughout the world, top Spanish players and use the youth system as our strategic foundation, just like Santiago Bernabeu did, whom we especially remember today.

We want to build a spectacular team, one that needs a man like Manuel, capable of facing responsibility with great character. He is a coach that likes touch foootball, always has an elegant style and good taste. That’s why he’s here; he is sufficiently brave to have faith in young talent, and is serious enough to coach a team like Real Madrid. His career has been excellent so far and he knows the Spanish league and the Champions League inside-out. His experience is even greater given that he coached in South America, where he combined passion with elegance.

As Jorge valdano says, Manuel Pellegrini is a football expert and believes Spanish football is better than its English counterpart. That motivates me personally. Football is all about taking risks, showcasing passion and being serious. Manuel knows just how serious this project is. We lay great part of the hopes of our fans at your doorstep. The Santiago Bernabeu Stadium will be your stage. Good luck and welcome to your new home.

Manuel Pellegrini:

It is hard to express in few words the emotion and pride that comes with coaching a club like Real Madrid, which is probably the most important club in the world. I’ll just say that when I started coaching 23 years ago I said I would end up training at Real Madrid. My dream has come true through hard and serious work. I’ve been lucky to have Florentino Perez and his Board have faith in me to lead this project. I think I’ve arrived at the right time, having worked in South America and spending five years in Spain. I believe they’ve made the right choice. I truly believe we will build a great team and that we’ll achieve important goals.

Manuel Pellegrini becomes a Madridista!

It is official.

Real Madrid C.F. and Manuel Pellegrini have reached a deal for the Chilean to become the first team head coach.

President of Honor, Alfredo di Stefano, and Club President, Florentino Perez, will officiallly present the new coach on 2 June at 12:00 CET at the Presidential Balcony of the Santiago Bernabeu. Subsequently, Director General and Presidential Aide, Jorge Valdano will accompany Manuel Pellegrini during a press conference.

A sensible move I would say. Florentino seems to have everything sorted out. I can’t wait to see how much he is going to tinker with the squad. The dude at The Offside says Manu will have a say in all the transfers that we are involved in. But what I don’t know is how much Pardeza will involve himself.

Manu, Zizou, Pardeza, Valdano and ofcourse Perez!

Excellence is so damn back!!!

Hala Madrid!!

The player was greeted by President Vicente Boluda and Honorary President Alfredo di Stefano, who gave him his new team shirt -number ’18’-.

Vicente Boluda:

This Board has listened to the requests of the team’s coaching staff and has reached an agreement to have Faubert loaned out to the Club until 20 June. The Club may use its right to sign the player for three years after this date if its coaching staff deems it necessary. You now have the chance to show the quality you treasure and that the Club demands of you. This is the chance of a lifetime and you have to use it well. Real Madrid will be your home and we demand devotion, compromise, team spirit and titles. We hope you are very happy here.

Julien Faubert:

I am very happy for receiving this shirt from a leading football personality like Alfredo di Stefano I can’t wait to defend these colours.

Following his official presentation and his first press conference as a Real Madrid player, Julien Faubert visited the dressing room and stepped onto the pitch of the Santiago Barnabeu Stadium with his new team’s kit.

Faubert looked very excited when he put on the Real Madrid shirt for the first time. Dozens of fans waited to greet him on the stands despite the heavy rain and they weren’t disappointed; Julien did several tricks and sent two balls their way.

Faubert had his picture taken on the pitch on his own, as well as with his wife and other family members, to immortalize the moment.

Lassana Diarrá becomes a Madridista!

Its official. A statement on the club’s website last night read:

Real Madrid CF, Portsmouth FC and French midfielder Lassana Diarrá have reached an agreement for the transfer of the player to the former club. Said agreement is conditioned by a successful medical examination to take place tomorrow and by the signing of a contract between the player and his new club. The Medical Staff then determined that Diarrà was in excellent health. The player then had to sign his contract at the Santiago Bernabéu and was to be officially presented.

lassana-diarra-7

Lassana Diarrà arrived at Santias Hospital at 9:15 am and had his medical examination after posing for the media with the doctors that greeted him.  The player had a blood test, after which he had breakfast. He then met Metzelder, who was also at the clinic. X-rays, electrochardiograms. Real Madrid’s Medical Staff did every test in the book and their results couldn’t have been better. Carlos Díez, Chief of the Medical Staff, said:

The player’s health is exceptional. He is perfectly fit to play. He is very excited and would already be working if it weren’t for the Christmas break.

French player Lassana Diarrà arrived at the Bernabéu at 13:00 after passing his medical examination. Diarrà arrived dressed in Real Madrid’s official Hugo Boss suit for the 2008/09 seasons and was greeted by President Ramón Calderón in the noble area of the stadium. Board Members Antonio Medina and Pascual Cervera accompanied them both to the Board Room and witnessed the signing of the contract, set to end in 2013. Calderón presented the player with a Real Madrid stylographic pen and a replica of the stadium. After the signing, Diarrà spent some time looking at the large number of trophies the Club has won, including nine European Cups.

Official Presentation:

Real Madrid’s third signing in this year’s winter transfer window was presented in the Presidential Balcony by Ramón Calderón and Alfredo di Stéfano.

lassana-diarra-9

The Honourary President waited for Diarrà and the President on the stage set in the Balcony, while Pedja Mijatovic and several Board Members sat in the front row. A large number of journalists gathered to cover the act.

Ramón Calderón:

In Spain we popularly use the expression ‘something good comes of something bad’, and our unfortunate situation regarding injuries has forced us to sign two great players.

It wasn’t an easy job, but the Sports Department has worked very efficiently to sign a young man with a bright future that may stay with us for many years. Diarrà is an international for France and he played in the Euro 2008. He was also an international for the French Under-21 side.

He is very experiend despite his young age and we believe he is a magnificent player. We welcome you to Real Madrid, your new family, and we hope you enjoy yourself here. You’ve arrived at a great club. Congratulations.

Lassana Diarrà:

It is an honour to play for Real Madrid. I’ve received a very warm welcome. I hope to play at a high level. I will do my best and I am sure to adapt quickly to the team and to speak Spanish soon.

On the pitch at last:

lassana-diarra-11

Every player dreams about being on the pitch of the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium. After his presentation, Lassana Diarrà put on his new team’s kit and fulfilled this dream.

Diarrà today did a journey he will do countless times from now on; that between the dressing rooms and the pitch. He walked past the great statues of Sotero Aranguren and Machimbarrena -legend has it that touching the football of each statue brings good luck- and entered the dressing room corridor. Step by step he came closer to the pitch, where several photographers and journalists waited to take the first pictures of Diarrà as a Real Madrid player.
